Black women experience significant rise in congenital syphilis rates

The rate of congenital syphilis in the U.S. increased 23% from 2005 to 2008, corresponding to a similar increase in syphilis among women, according to an MMWR report.

Examining national surveillance data, CDC researchers found that from 2003 to 2005, the incidence of congenital syphilis dropped from 10.6 to 8.2 cases per 100,000 live births. After that, the incidence rose, reaching 10.1 cases per 100,000 live births in 2008.

Yak attack.

Obese women and sex: the rate of unplanned pregnancies is four times higher among single obese women than normal weight women, despite them being less likely to have been sexually active in the past year. Obese men have fewer sexual partners in a 12 month period, but are more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction and develop sexually transmitted infections than normal weight men.
